AVONMORE
CELEBRATES
125 YEARS
Harvest Jubilee set for September
to commemorate borough’s history

The history of Avonmore can be traced back
to its earliest settler, Stephen Rinebolt, a man
more than 7 feet tall, who escaped his home-land
in Holland, came to America and was given a
land grant by the William Penn family in 1734.
He could choose his land from the Western side of
the Allegheny Mountains.
Rinebolt set out alone to find his new home. After
exploring the area, he ultimately settled along the
banks of the Kiski River, built his homestead along a
cliff overlooking the river and became the first Euro-pean
settler of what is now Avonmore.
Avonmore was incorporated as a borough 159 years
after Rinebolt’s trek across the state.
The borough is celebrating its quasquicentennial
125 years later with the 2018 Avonmore Harvest
Jubilee, taking place Friday, Sept. 21 and Saturday,
Sept. 22.
The festival kicks off at 3 p.m. Saturday and lasts
