4 · THURSDAY, AUGUST 2, 2018 TRIB TOTAL MEDIA
ornaments to browse. There is a photo
contest, with a theme of working
antique farm machinery, and a quilt
patch contest, focusing this year on the
Lucky Clover patch.
There will be exhibitions and
events, too, from tractor pulls and a de-molition
derby to a new event for this
year, garden tractor races, which will be
held at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 6.
Entertainment in the afternoons
and evenings will include bands,
a children’s comedian and trained
animals. If you want to see the animals
in action, you can check out the goat
obstacle course and the rabbit hopping
competition, both new this year.
One of the other unique aspects of
the Butler Farm Show is its exhibition
of antique farm equipment.
“We had 220 antique tractors on
display last year,” Lokhaiser said.
“Farmers restore them and people love
looking at them.”
There are also daily threshing
demonstrations with old threshing
machines. These demonstrations use
oats that are grown locally on the farm
show’s grounds.
Each day is also packed with amuse-ments.
There are rides and attractions
provided by Bartlebaugh Amusements,
and visitors can ride for no additional
cost above the $8 daily price of admis-sion.
Parking is also free.
There are top-of-the-line facilities
on the grounds, from an on-site air-port
to arenas, show buildings, barns
and updated bathroom facilities that
Lokhaiser is especially proud of.
“You don’t need to be afraid to use
our public bathrooms,” he said.
The Butler Farm Show opens each
day from Monday, Aug. 6 to Saturday,
Aug. 11 at 8:30 a.m. They stay open
until 11 p.m., so the cost of admission
gives you a long day to explore the
grounds.
The rides open each day at 1 p.m.
(except Monday, when they open at
4 p.m.), and there are free shows and
entertainment in the afternoons. Some
of the arena shows cost an additional
$4 for admission.
There is no better opportunity to
celebrate the local agricultural commu-nity,
from kids raising prize livestock
to farmers restoring antiques, than the
Butler Farm Show.
Check out the pride of Butler with
the whole family from Aug. 6 to 11
at the show grounds, 627 Evans City
Road, Butler, PA 16001.
