Russell and Mallory went to work
searching the literature to try to see
if there was a connection between
what Zid was teaching and the relief
of symptoms. There wasn’t much research
back then, she said, but what
she found, coupled with what she
saw from her friend, convinced her
to meet Zid and collaborate to help
build the program, write a book and
create a DVD.
Today, Delay the Disease is being
taught at rehabilitation centers,
health facilities and community centers
all over the country, including
Pennsylvania. Residents in Allegheny,
Westmoreland, Butler and surrounding
counties can all find classes.
The program is based on the way
the disease works and how the brain
responds to its progression, said Zid,
who became interested in combating
Parkinson’s after several of his clients
were diagnosed. As dopamine levels
decrease, Zid explains, everyday functions
become smaller. Steps become
