BATTLE OF BUSHY RUN
Aug, 3 and 4: Witness a clash of cultures as historical
re-enactors bring the Battle of Bushy Run to life! Learn
what caused Native American warriors and British soldiers
to take up arms against each other during a two-day battle
in August 1763 during Pontiac’s War. Events include historical
demonstrations, a Native American village, a refugee
camp, a fashion show, live historical music, a children’s area
and more. Adults $10, children $5, younger than 3 are free.

PITTSBURGH RENAISSANCE FESTIVAL
Aug. 17-18, 24-25, 31; Sept. 1-2, 7-8, 14-15, 21-22:
Take a magical tour through time as you wander down the
village streets and pathways of the Pittsburgh Renaissance
Festival in West Newton. Watch artisans work in ancient
style crafts and enjoy a roast turkey leg, steak on a
stake or fresh baked goods. Adults $23, children 5-12 $11,

FLAX SCUTCHING FESTIVAL
Sept. 14-15: The Flax Scutching Festival offers demonstrations
of the complete process of making linen from
the flax plant. The festival also has great homemade food,
crafts, antique farm equipment, live music, civil war encampment,
covered-wagon train encampment and a staged
Indian raid. Adults $4, children younger than 12 are admitted
free. The admission fee includes all festival demonstrations,

WESTMORELAND COUNTY FAIR
Aug. 16-24: Now in its 66th year, the fair hosts
live entertainment, an annual pageant, arena events,
agricultural exhibits, vendors and more. Daily admission
is $7. Weekly passes available at the fair office from 9 a.m.
to 3 p.m. on Aug. 9, 10 and 13-16. On Aug. 17-20, they
can be purchased at the admission gates starting at
