ALEX KADYLAK
You could say Mt. Pleasant
enters the 2018 football season
with a veteran club.
Right down to the coach.
Well, it’s amore experienced
bunch than when Jason Fazekas
took over the program a
year ago with just five returning
starters.
Nine starters return this
year, and Fazekas enters his
second season at the helm.
But Fazekas has served on the
Mt. Pleasant staff for a total of
15 seasons.
His long connection with
the program dates to his days
as an offensive lineman for the
Vikings,makingunacceptable
the idea of failing to qualify
for the WPIAL playoffs for the
first time in nine seasons.
“Our standard always is
to take care of ourselves, be
competitive in the conference
and be competitive in the playoffs,”
Fazekas said. “Last year
was not up to the plan.”
The Vikings will look to
improve on a 4-6 record that included
a 3-4 mark in the Class
3A Interstate Conference,
marking program’s first losing
season since 2008. Part of
the problem for Mt. Pleasant
was inexperience.
