With several key pieces
gone from its WPIAL and
PIAA championship team,
Jeannette has some slight
concerns.
That’s the tinge of bad news.
The good news: the rest
of that group is back. And
that means a preseason
Class A No. 1 ranking for
the Jayhawks, who went 15-1
and still appear to have some
firepower.
Adding to their WPIAL record
736 wins shouldn’t be
too taxing.
“We still have what it takes
to win a championship,” senior
receiver/defensive back
Marcus Barnes said. “Jeannette
is a small town, but we
have a lot of tough kids, and
we know how to win.”
Star quarterback Robert
Kennedy, receiver/linebacker/
kicker Tre Cunningham
and staunch lineman Jalen
Jones all graduated, while
would-be senior defensive end
Anthony Johnson, a Division
I prospect, transferred to a
larger school in Cleveland.
Kennedy was the Class A
state co-player of the year
andMr. PA Football. Cunningham
was the Tribune-Review
Westmoreland’s Athlete of the
Year. Johnson is the reigning
Eastern Conference Defensive
Player of the Year and had
