Educating Students for theWorld
SETONHILL.EDU/100
For the past 100 years, Seton Hill University has educated students to think and act
critically, creatively and ethically as productive members of society, committed to
transforming the world.
Founded in Greensburg, Pa. by the Sisters of Charity, Seton Hill University received
its charter as a four-year institution of higher learning in 1918. The relationship
between the city of Greensburg and Seton Hill has only grown over the past century.
In 2009, Seton Hill expanded its hilltop campus into the downtown with the opening
of a new Per forming Arts Center in Greensburg’s historic cultural district. In 2015,
the University’s new, award-winning Arts Center joined the Per forming Arts Center in
downtown Greensburg.
What started as a small college for local young women is now a coeducational
university educating students from across the U.S. and around the world, offering
more than 80 undergraduate and 13 graduate degree programs, as well as an adult
degree program and advanced certifi cations in a variety of disciplines.
In 2018, Seton Hill has introduced new programs, including commercial music at
the undergraduate level, forensic accounting and fraud examination at the graduate
level and behavioral health as an adult degree program. While some courses are
still taught in traditional classrooms, others are taught in labs, studios, in the fi eld
and online – on campus and around the world.
Seton Hill has a pioneering history - fi rst in the education of young women, later
as a small school that used its size and educational expertise to create unique
opportunities for both male and female students of all ages. What has never
changed, however, is the University’s dedication to its students. Seton Hill embraces
students of all faiths, and pursues its mission in the tradition of Saint Elizabeth
Ann Seton, who promised her own students: “I would wish to fi t you for that world in
which you are destined to live.”
