although Trotter repeated Psalm 109, otherwise known as the prayer of the falsely accused, the three men, fearing for their own lives should they fail to carry out Wayne’s order, shot and killed Trotter. Afterward, they all became con-vinced they were cursed. One soldier became plagued by diabetes and died in misery. Another went to New Alex-andria and then Butler County, slipped into alcoholism and was convinced for the rest of his life that he was being followed by a demonic dog that would appear and stare at him endlessly. The third man stayed in Loyalhanna Township and believed he was pos-sessed, saying that the devil came to torment him, staring down over the headboard while he slept. He suffered a head injury after being thrown from his horse — spooked, he claimed, by a demonic goose — and later died. Gen-eral Wayne, supposedly, was also cursed by the ghost of Trotter standing at the foot of his bed, awakening him in the middle of the night, staring at him in silent accusation. KECKSBURG In addition to its ghostly legends and lore, Westmoreland County is also home to perhaps the most famous UFO crash site outside of Roswell. Eyewitness accounts reported a flam-ing object streaking through the sky and changing direction before crash-ing into a wooded ravine in the woods just outside the village of Kecksburg at dusk on Dec. 9, 1965. Locals reportedly saw an object about the size of a small car, shaped like an acorn and made of metal, with strange markings on a band around the bottom, partially buried in the earth. Later that same evening, the military moved in, cordoned off the area and a few hours later left town with the object under a tarp in the back of a trailer. The official claim at the time, how-ever, was that nothing was ever found in the woods and the object residents saw was a meteor. In the fifty-plus years since there have been many theories floated as to what may have happened that night. Some have theorized that it wasn’t a meteor at all but instead a Russian satellite or spacecraft, a projec-tile from a giant gun or even the result of a World War II-era Nazi experiment. Just last year, a pair of Westmoreland County researchers put forth their own theory that it was a General Electric Mark 2 Re-entry Vehicle that was used as a spy satellite by the U.S. Air Force before it fell it out of orbit. Yet others still believe it was a UFO that crash-landed in the woods before being recovered and rushed away by the military. Local Kecksburg expert Stan Gordon, who was 16 in 1965 and has been investigating the occurrence ever since, said the case is so interesting because it involved a multitude of people witnessed either the object in the sky, DISCOVER HAUNTED WESTMORELAND Celebrating 17 Years in Downtown Greensburg The boutique with a heart for you and your community. 52 | Discover Westmoreland 2016 adno=6330253 200 South Pennsylvania Ave Downtown Greensburg 724-838-1878 Store Hours:Mon,Wed, Fri 10–5:30 • Tues & Thur 10–7 • Sat 9:30–4 www.neverenoughboutique.com • Alex & Ani • Brighton (Handbags,Mini Bags, Jewelry, Home Gifts and Footwear) • CARA Jewelry • HEET • Hobo Handbags • Holly Yashi • Kendra Scott • Lenny & Eva • Lizzy James • Lokai • SORRELLI • STEVEN Handbags • The Giving Keys • Vera Bradley Follow Us We are on trend and featuring the following lines: Rosine Dull and Christie Dull Rhoades, owners
