SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 18, 2017 · 11 AWAY TO GIVE BACK military service or service to the community or family. They also have to have the cognitive, emotional and physical ability to experience the wish. “Each one, I can honestly say, has touched me in some way,” Andrews said. “I don’t think I’ve ever been to a wish-granting ceremony where the people were not genuinely just so grateful and couldn’t believe they were having this wish granted. And they’re wonderful people who’ve given back to their communities over the years. So to have someone now helping them, there are always a lot of happy tears.” The organization relies solely on donations and volunteers, and each chapter does its own fundraising. Although it’s a national nonprofit, individual chapters don’t get a lump sum from headquarters as other similar organizations might, said Allegheny chapter head Morgan Lesoski. Her chapter holds an annual tulip sale around Easter that acts as its primary fundraiser with other smaller events throughout the year. They also look to the community for donations of time and skills to grant some of their wishes. They are currently working on a wish to bring a day of pampering to a bed-bound woman. She said the organization is always looking for more donations, volunteers and seniors to help. “We always want to grant more wishes, especially when you hear some of the wishes that are simple like a wheelchair or a scooter,” she said. One of her favorite wishes, granted recently, was for an older woman who wanted an iPad so she could FaceTime with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who live too far away to visit. “She thought if she had an iPad she could figure it out and go to classes at the library to help,” Lesoski said. “We set it up and got her a printer as well and set her up with email and a tech guy to help, so that was really cool. That was a real feel-good one.” If you’d like to help, Lesoski suggested visiting the main website at twilightwish.org. The website has a place to donate, as well as contact information for the various chapters and instructions on nominating a senior for a wish. adno=6520687 Quality Nursing from the Heart We provide medical & non-medical services in the privacy of your OWN HOME. 24-Hour around the clock services including Holidays OUR TEAM INCLUDES: Home Health Aides (HHAs) Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) Registered Nurses (RNs) We provide assistance in… • Activities of daily living • Bathing • Cooking • Light House Work • Physical Therapy • Medication Maintenance/ Administration •Wound Care • Trasnsportation to/from Medical Appointments Servicing Allegheny, Beaver, Butler and Washington Counties.
