GARDEN CALENDAR
Tomatoes are the backbone to every vegetable garden. They are easy to grow, and nothing beats the flavor of one picked
fresh from the garden. Don’t get the plants in the ground too early, though.
PLANNING IMPORTANT
DURING HECTIC MONTH OF MAY
May might be the craziest for gardeners as we get planting, weed-ing
and watering. It’s important not to start too early planting tender
crops even though the days are warm. There have been many seasons
when a frost popped up in the third week of May.
It might be a risk worth taking, if you’re prepared to cover plants,
cross your fingers and take a chance. Some years, I’ve seen gardeners
plant tomatoes, peppers, impatiens and other frost-sensitive plants
early in the month without a problem.
Other years, early planting means repeating the process after frost
takes care of the initial planting.
Splitting daffodils
If your daffodils are getting the sun they need but have stopped
blooming, it’s time to split them up. Over the years, they get crowded
under the ground.
I have an old favorite variety that was in place for decades.

after being divided a few years ago.
