The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra has become increasingly active throughout the summer months. This year, the symphony will perform June 5 at the 58th annual Dollar Bank Three Rivers Arts Festival at Pittsburgh’s Point State Park, but that’s just the beginning of “Summer with the Symphony.” Other shows include: • Music of Flight and Fantasy: A Sensory Friendly Performance, 2:30 p.m. June 17, Heinz Hall. $15 • The O’Jays with the Pittsburgh Symphony, 7:30 p.m. June 29, Heinz Hall. The symphony also will once again have a summer chamber music series at Unity Chapel in Latrobe, featuring the Beo String Quartet on June 15, the Duo Cieli & the Ferla-Marcinizyn Guitar Duo on July 20 and the IUP Faculty Brass Quintet on Aug. 17. The concerts are $10 each and benefit the Westmoreland Youth Symphony Orchestra Programs. Details: pnme.org TRIBUNE-REVIEW Beat the heat, hit the theater The regional summer theater season gets jump-started next week, with the Pittsburgh debut of “An American in Paris,” based on the 1951 movie starring Pittsburgh native Gene Kelly. The show is a joint production of Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera and PNC Broadway in Pittsburgh, and it runs May 30 to June 11. But there’s plenty more to see this summer.
