Status: New Limited X trim level
Summary: From tame to torrid, the Grand Cherokee covers
more bases than most other major-league sport-utility ve-hicles.
The “sport” reference is validated by the all-wheel-drive
Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. It comes with a supercharged V-8
that puts out a ground-pounding 707 horsepower and 645
pound-feet of torque.
It also uses a modified eight-speed automatic transmis-sion,
a tougher differential and rear driveshaft, plus beefed-up
suspension components, compared to regular-strength GCs.
If the Trackhawk’s near $90,000 price tag is too steep, the
much cheaper 475-horsepower Grand Cherokee SRT will still
deliver plenty of thrills.
Meanwhile, the Trailhawk is specifically designed for more
extreme off-road traversing. It comes with standard 18-inch
Goodyear Adventure tires, increased suspension travel and up
to 11.8 inches of ground clearance, thanks to a modified air-ride
suspension system.
For 2019, a new Limited X model is dressed up with a
unique front and rear fascia, performance hood and 20-inch
wheels.
Inside, there are perforated leather seats, 8.4-inch touch-screen
and a nine-speaker audio system with active noise
cancellation.

Summary: If recent reports are true, the end is near for
Chrysler’s full-size sedan as the brand charts a new course toward
electrified people movers.
Meanwhile, for those traditionalists and fleet operators who
want or need a roomy sedan with an equally cavernous trunk, the
300 should more than suffice.
The big Chrysler can be outfitted with numerous luxury options,
including Sport Appearance and Chrome Appearance packages on
the Limited, BeatsAudio and Chrome wheel packages for the 300S
and an available premium Harmon Kardon stereo and dual-panel
sunroof for the 300C.
Although there’s no SRT performance version to be had (check
out the companion Dodge Charger for that), the regular-strength
Hemi V-8 remains plenty potent.
For something tamer, the 3.6-liter V-6 gives a good accounting
of itself on the road and at the gas pumps.
The V-6 300 can be specified with all-wheel-drive that un-couples
the front axle when it’s not needed, reducing drag on the
engine.
For safety’s sake, buyers can add Chrysler’s SafetyTec Plus
package with full-speed forward-collision warning, adaptive cruise
control with full-stop function, lane-departure warning with lane-keep
assist, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-path detection
and more.

Status: The Demon is done, but
the Redeye takes its place
Summary: There’s likely not a
more horsepower-crazy domestic car
company than Dodge. For 2018, the
drag strip-focused (but street-legal)
Challenger Demon took center stage
with up to 840 horsepower.
Dodge has retired that model but
has replaced it with more well-rounded
SRT Hellcat Redeye that adds a full 80
horsepower to the “regular” Hellcat’s
717 horses (up 10 for 2019) for a total
of 797.
How? It’s essentially the Demon’s
engine. The vehicle is available in both
regular and Widebody versions that
were originally part of the Demon’s kit.
For something much tamer that you
can drive in any weather, check out the
all-wheel-drive Challenger SXT and GT.
Each is equipped with a 305-horse-power
V-6 and an eight-speed auto-matic
transmission.
The rear-wheel-drive V-6 and
5.7-liter “Hemi” V-8 (standard with
R/T and Widebody trims) Challengers
return unaltered, as does the 6.4-liter
V-8 used to power the Challenger SRT
392.
