Emmaus Community
of Pittsburgh
Emmaus provides respite care in 15-min-ute
units at their permanent homes located
at Jordan House (South Side), Jericho
House (Brookline) for women and Bethany
House (Brookline) and Shiloh House (Mt.
Lebanon) for men.
They also provide in-home services in
private or family homes.

Mainstay Life Services
Mainstay offers a summer respite and
recreation program, giving adults 18 and
older who live with families and caregivers
an opportunity for recreation and socializa-tion
over a one- or two-week period in July.
Participants will stay on a Pittsburgh uni-versity
campus and take trips to a variety of
locations around the region.
The program is staffed 24 hours a day by
skilled professionals.

McGuire Memorial
McGuire Memorial, in New Brighton,
provides temporary, on-site respite care for
families who have loved ones with develop-mental
and physical disabilities.
Respite patients get the same care and
support as McGuire residents but for a
shorter time.
Short-term respite care provides on-site
care for up to 31 days per year, which does
not have to be used all at one time, while
temporary respite care provides on-site care
for up to 10 hours at a time beyond the 31-
day allowance.
Emergency or unscheduled care is also
available, space permitting.

Pittsburgh Mercy
Pittsburgh Mercy offers unlicensed home
and community support services to indi-viduals
with intellectual disabilities living
in their family’s home, including respite
services.
Families can choose the person they
want to provide services who is then hired
and paid by Pittsburgh Mercy Intellectual
Disabilities Services.

PLEA
PLEA offers respite care in the homes of
children with behavioral or developmental
difficulties.

The Watson Institute
The Watson Institute provides day respite
services for children with special needs and
their siblings in a group, camplike setting.
They offer both indoor and outdoor ac-tivities,
have a high staff-to-child ratio and
have a nurse present at all times.
The program is designed for children
with autism spectrum disorder, develop-mental
delays and neurological impair-ments
and their siblings.
Children with special needs, ages 3-21,
and their siblings, ages 3-13, are eligible.
Programs are held in the spring and fall on
Saturdays at a cost of $45 for one child or
$60 for two or more.

The Woodlands
Programs at the Woodlands, located in
Wexford, encourage and foster socializa-tion,
independence, recreation, self-percep-tion
and health and wellness among chil-dren
and adults with disability and chronic
illness.
They offer a variety of weekend retreats
from September through May and summer
camps in June, July and August. For more
