Each year, the Farm Show
has a specific theme for its
photography competition
and quilt patch. This year, the
photography contest theme
will be “Double Rainbow”
and the quilting patch is the
Dutchman’s Puzzle.
The theme of this year’s
poster contest is “Inspiring
PA’s Agriculture Story,” with
contestants making posters
that celebrate the diverse
Pennsylvania agricultural
community and its effect on
our culture and standing as a
worldwide agricultural leader.
The livestock auctions can
be especially rewarding. One
of the biggest events, Lefever
said, is the Thursday night
4-H auction.
“That’s where the kids have
the opportunity to sell their
4-H projects,” she said. “Lots
of local businessmen come
and support them pretty
heavily. They do make a lot of
money.”
In addition to browsing
local jewelry, honey, baked
goods, artwork, wine and
many other products, attendees
can enjoy a variety of
other entertainment.
Included in the price of
admission — $7 for Monday,
Aug. 5; $8 for every other day
— fairgoers can ride carnival
rides, provided by Bartlebauch
Amusements.
To add to the festive atmosphere,
midway games and
food stands will be open for
business on the fair grounds,
and live entertainment will
also be available.
“There will be a lot of
tractor and truck pulls and
live music in the pavilion,”
Lefever said.
Animal lovers can check
out events, such as Tuesday’s
rabbit hopping contest or
Wednesday’s goat costume
contest. This year even adds
an alpaca obstacle course
event.
Mechanics and equipment
lovers can enjoy robotics
competitions, threshing
demonstrations (using oats
grown on the Farm Show’s
grounds) and antique farming
equipment displays.
In addition to live music,
other shows, some of which
are an additional $4 for admission,
will captivate guests
every evening. There are some
free shows, such as the Pork
Chop Review and the Moogician,
both of which will wow
guests every day of the Farm
Show’s run.
The Butler Farm Show
provides an opportunity for
families to come together and
celebrate.
“The motto is ‘the family
tradition.’ It truly is. A lot of
families have participated
in the farm show for a lot of
years,” Lefever said.
It’s also a time for community.
The board of the Butler
Farm Show is 17 members,
and hundreds of volunteers
come together every year to
make this show happen.
The show grounds are
maintained year-round, with
new construction and renovations
happening when necessary
to keep the buildings,
tents and bathrooms in top
shape for the annual event.
As summer vacation winds
down, the Butler Farm Show
is a great time to enjoy the
warm weather before fall
approaches.
With a little something for
every member of the family
to enjoy, this is one family
tradition not to be missed.
From demolition derbies to
demonstrations, auctions to
carnival rides, live music to
livestock exhibitions, the variety
of entertainment cannot
be beat.
