The hectic pace of May planting is over, and it’s time to fill the gaps
in the garden.
June might be an even better time to plant, as the weather has
stabilized and there’s time to think about the right plant for the right
place.
Dahlias come into their own at the end of the season but can be
found now as either tubers or plants. Both will start to be discounted
soon, and it’s not too late to plant them. Most will reach their peak
in August.
The “Dahlightful” series from Proven Winners was bred to put on
a show all season and doesn’t form much of a tuber, making it an
exception to the rule.
Some gardeners shy away from dahlias, as they don’t want to save
the tender tuber at the end of the season. Don’t deny yourself the
Dahlias come into their own at the end of the season.
