A speakeasy during Prohibition, the Carriage Inn then became a legal tavern, with one of the first official liquor licenses issued after Prohibition ended. Piccolo Pete’s was the name at this time, and then Ernie’s. Ultimately it was named the Carriage Inn in the early 1960s. The Carriage Inn used some of the original beams from the old Boston Bridge, when it was dismantled, to expand the Inn. The Carriage Inn was the first restaurant in the area to feature whole chicken wings, and developed and holds a patent on the popular dry seasoning used on its wings.
