Silver Award—Best Hoagie/ Sub/ Sandwich - Route 30 Broadway Pizza and Subs Broadway Pizza and Subs in McKeesport has won plenty of awards for its pizza, but this year, the second item in its name gets its moment in the spotlight. The sizable 15-inch whole subs and wide variety of meats and toppings has made Broadway Pizza and Subs the 2017 Readers’ Choice Silver Award winner for Best Hoagie/Sub/Sandwich in the Route 30 region. While Broadway serves up all of the standard subs—Italian, meatball, sausage and chicken—their two most popular are two of the ones stacked highest. “I would say we probably won the hoagie award for our steak and our Bomber,” owner AnnieWashowich said. “The steak is definitely our most popular sub.” Sold as whole or half subs, Broadway’s thin-sliced ribeye gets grilled before being thrown in the oven with peppers, onions, mushrooms, lettuce, tomato and provolone cheese. Other varieties include a steak, bacon and cheddar or a heated-up “Steak on Fire” sub with jalapeños, onion rings and fire sauce. The Broadway Bomber—the restaurant’s biggest offering—also features their steak, along with cappicola, salami, ham and veggies, all topped with French fries and ranch dressing and guaranteed to fill up even the biggest appetites. While the name only mentions pizza and subs, Broadway’s menu continues to expand, just as the restaurant did about five years ago with the addition of its dine-in area. New to the menu at Broadway is their broasted chicken.They offer whole wings, lightly breaded and pressure cooked, as well as two-piece and four-piece dinners to make it an entire meal. Broasted boneless wings are also on the menu, while Broadway continues to serve its popular traditional wings and other menu favorites. Not content to stop there, Washowich said more new items are on the way to Broadway. “Those (chicken dinners) seem to be taking off for us pretty good. Coming out for summer, we’re going to have a pulled pork pizza that’s going to have onion rings, cheese and barbecue sauce,”Washowich said. “We’re also taking our Bomber sub and offering it as a calzone, and there are some other new items we’re thinking about trying soon.” Available for pickup, delivery or to dine in, Broadway’s food is available from 11 a.m. to midnight Sundays throughThursdays, and until 1 a.m. Fridays and Saturdays.
