This year, Bethlen Communities also is the winner of the Reader’s Choice Silver Award in the Assisted Living/ Nursing Home category. Bethlen Communities is a continuing-care retirement community (CCRC). As a CCRC, Bethlen offers a variety of living arrangements for retirees with different levels of care that could be required in a person’s later years. Kelly Pynos, the administrator of Bethlen Home, said that once a resident has entered the Bethlen Community, they can have comfort knowing that any type of care services or living arrangements they might need for the rest of their life is provided in the Bethlen Community. “It’s our goal to give our residents that peace of mind,” Pynos said. Bethlen Communities includes the Bethlen Cottages, which offer independent-living options to residents; the Ligonier Gardens, a personal care living facility; and the Bethlen Home, a skilled-nursing and rehabilitation facility for long- and short-term care. “Because we are a close community, we can provide smooth transitions between our facilities,” Pynos said. “A patient can easily go from our skilled nursing at the Bethlen Home, back to the personal care living arrangements at the Ligonier Gardens. Maybe, eventually, they would even return to independent living at the Bethlen Cottages.” Pynos said the key to making their community run smoothly is communication. “Everyone is always aware of what is happening,” she said. “Our residents don’t have to wonder who will be providing their care, or what the next step will be. We have the caretakers come in and meet with residents and their families as soon as possible, and they explain exactly what the next step is and how the resident will get there.” Bethlen Communities also offers in-home care for those in the Ligonier and Laurel Valley community who need help following any medical setback with Bethlen Home Health. Unique to the Bethlen Communities as a CCRC is their Graceful Aging Wellness Center.The center offers a variety of programs, resources and opportunities that improve the quality of life for anyone over the age of fifty in Ligonier Valley and other surrounding communities. Not only does the wellness center allow them to serve everyone, but it lets them offer their patients the tools needed to live the best life they can. Pynos gives a lot of credit to the “amazing” staff members throughout the entire Bethlen Communities. “Without them we couldn’t do what we do,” she said. “We have people who have been with us for over thirty years.
