DINNER Jacktown Ride and Hunt Club With a prime location tucked away on Center Highway, just off Route 30, the Jacktown Ride & Hunt Club is one of the longest-running private clubs in the area. The Jacktown Ride & Hunt Club offers excellent dining seven nights a week and weekday lunches. The club, which entered its 82nd year of operation this month, is the 2017 Reader’s Choice Silver Award winner for Best Seafood Restaurant. The club’s culinary tradition dates to the days of wooden-plate steak and lobster dinners. Today, led by chef Mike Macalus, they continue to provide a diverse and pleasing menu for their membership of more than 2,700. “The first thing we want to do is to thank our loyal members for their support and for helping us win this award,” front-of-house manager Michael Christofel said. “Not a lot of private clubs have been around as long as we have, and while we always try to do some different things, we stay with our staples that have been so popular.” “The best way I’d describe our menu is that we cover a broad palate,” said Macalus, the club’s chef for the past four years. “The seafood is something I started working on since I became involved. We use a lot of flavors, seasonings, things you won’t find everywhere in this area, and we make our food as fresh as possible. Everything is made in-house when possible.” Perhaps no night is better to try Jacktown’s award-winning seafood than their monthly seafood night, held on the thirdThursday of each month. Specials such as all-you-can-eat crab legs and seafood boils for two have been past seafood night offerings, while otherThursdays during the month give Macalus and his staff of six a chance to roll out other dinner specials. “Everybody puts a hand in the work we do.We want to be positive, and everybody contributes,” he said. “The specials are where you’re really going to see the best flavor combinations. I consider us the best hidden secret in Irwin.” Other features at the club include a high tea brunch on the last Sunday of each month, a craft beer night on the secondThursday of each month, wine Club on the thirdThursday of each month and holiday specials, including ones coming up for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and they also have an annual golf outing. Live entertainment and an open mic night also enhance the experience whether in the dining room or at the bar, which is open every night until midnight and later on weekends. Jacktown Ride & Hunt Club is also proud to be involved with the local communities, which includes its presentation of an annual $1,000 scholarship for a graduating high school student. The club is accepting new members, and information about membership or the club’s many offerings is available on their website, jacktownrideandhunt. com, or by calling 724-863-8151. adno=6448777
