He parlayed that fascination with cooking and food into opening his own restaurant, and Dom’s Pizzeria in Trafford has earned Trib Total Media’s Readers’ Choice honors every year since.This year, Dom’s Pizzeria won the Gold Award for Best Pizza and the Silver Award for Best Burgers in theWestmoreland Area. Dom’s Pizzeria also won the Community Award for Best Pizza and Hoagies in Trafford. “It’s awesome because the people of Penn Trafford, in particular, have been very supportive of me,” Pecora said. “It means a lot, and I don’t take it for granted.” Dom’s Pizzeria started as a take-out and delivery establishment in 2009.They moved down the street to the present location at 502 Cavitt Avenue in Trafford and became Dom’s Pizzeria and Sports Bar with an expanded menu offering appetizers, hoagies, sandwiches, wraps, soups, salads and dinners in addition to pizza.With big televisions and a full bar, it became a favorite place in the community for not only pizza but also nights out with friends and family and watching games. Ultimate fighting fans are in for a particular treat at Dom’s because the restaurant gets almost all the UFC pay-per-view events. The keys to a good pizza, Pecora said, are good crust and sauce recipes and good cooks.Their crust is somewhere in between thick and thin, and they buy top-of-the-line meats and the freshest vegetables for their toppings. Pecora loves that his restaurant also plays a role in the community, working with local sports teams, groups and organizations with fundraising and providing food for Penn-Trafford athletics concession stands. He also is proud to offer prices that allow families to come to his restaurant and eat without getting hit with a massive bill at the end of the night. “I have five kids; I know what it’s like to take a family out to eat,” he said. “We have specials on our menu with pizza, hoagies and wings that could feed a family of six or seven. You can take your family here and not go bankrupt.” The final piece of the formula for a successful restaurant, besides good food and good prices, is good service and Pecora wanted to thank his two longtime managers, Nate Kasprzyk and TimWatson for their dedication and leadership.
