Designed by Bill Love, the par-70 championship all-bent grass layout features multiple tees, ample fairways, rolling greens, two putting greens, grass tee driving range and practice bunker. The clubhouse includes a golf shop, grillroom, banquet and meeting facilities. Located minutes from the Turnpike, I-79 and Pittsburgh. Big Shot Bob’s House ofWings Asking owner Matt Cercone to choose his favorite item on the menu at Big Shot Bob’s House ofWings is an impossible task. Big Shot Bob’s is the home of the world famous Soldier hoagie that includes chicken fingers, bacon, gyro meat and provolone smothered in golden BBQ sauce. There’s also the Sloppy Broadway Joe, with one pound of ground meat mixed with onions, green peppers, Sloppy Joe sauce and American cheese. Those are just two of the dozen-plus hoagies, and there are also nearly a dozen burgers and sandwiches to choose from. Then there are the wings, always cooked fresh to order with more than 200 choices of sauces/seasonings. Keeping the menu fresh and finding new flavors and combinations is one of the things Big Shot Bob’s prides itself on, which is why asking Cercone to pick his top choice is so difficult. “We’re always trying to come up with new things, so my favorite thing is the next thing,” Cercone said. Big Shot Bob’s was named the Readers’ Choice Gold Award winner for BestWings/Chicken in the North Side and the Silver Award winner for BestWings/Chicken in theWest/ Robinson, making it the eighth and ninth awards since the first restaurant opened in 2007. “We understand the reason for our success is because of our customers,” Cercone said. Wings are always cooked fresh to order, Cercone said, and the same holds true for their burgers, which are never frozen. They also love to stay ahead of the curve and be creative with their offerings. When Big Shot Bob’s opened in 2007, the restaurant offered 52 wing sauces. That number is now over 200, with flavors including Black and Gold (gold BBQ and black magic seasoning), Cool Runnings (Jamaican Jerk mixed with ranch), Mean Joe Green (Black and Gold with a green jalapeno sauce) and Steel City (mild buffalo with ranch seasoning and parmesan cheese). “We just make some fresh wings, throw seasonings on them and see what happens,” Cercone said of the invention process for new flavors. “If it works, we give it a clever name. If not, back to the drawing board.” Big Shot Bob’s often gets shout-outs from local radio station DJs, Cercone said, and they also have been catering the final day of the Steelers draft for a couple of years now, a new tradition of which they are very proud. Big Shot Bob’s Avalon location is at 344 Union Avenue, Pittsburgh, Pa., 15202.They can be reached at 412-761-7468 or online at bigshotbobs. com.The Avalon location is open Monday throughThursday from 4:30 p.m. to 11 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. until midnight and Sunday from noon to 10 p.m. adno=6442851 Gold Award—Best Golf Course - North adno=6447070 Winner
