TRIB TOTAL MEDIA THURSDAY, APRIL 27, 2017 · 17 Gold Award—Best Home Care - Route 8 St. Barnabas St. Barnabas was founded in the year 1900 as an assisted-living home. Since then, it has evolved into a senior retirement community for residents fifty-five and older to get services they need. St. Barnabas is proud to have won the 2017 Readers’ Choice Gold Award in the Best Home Care category. “St. Barnabas is a combination of aspects, but what it is, is a home for people who need care,” said Jim Lauteri, marketing director for St. Barnabas since April of last year. Originally developed as an assisted-living community, St. Barnabas is now a retirement community in Gibsonia made up of homes for people of all needs, as well as facilities for health care and recreation such as golf courses, a pool, ponds and a theatre. The village is built for retirees of any age to enjoy themselves comfortably, according to Lauteri. “We have people come in around their late fifties, and just today we celebrated someone’s one hundreth birthday,” Lauteri said. Lauteri said St. Barnabas has about 800 staff members ranging from doctors and nurses to administrators and security. “The way it’s set up, when there’s an issue, we deal right away with it,” he said. “We have a staff that’s good at jumping in whenever they need to.” Lauteri said one advantage of St. Barnabas is its consolidation and organization of resources. Assisted-living residents live alongside the nursing home in addition to early retirees, and there is trained staff for every need. Its long history has also served it well, and it has only had three CEOs since it was first founded. Current CEOWilliam Day has been active for more than fifty years, and is responsible for making St. Barnabas a complete retirement community, which was developed thirty-seven years ago, according to Lauteri. “Our current leader came in and had the idea to make it a retirement community,” he said. Residents live in St. Barnabas on a month-to-month payment schedule. Lauteri said that charity and fundraiser events are held to help families afford the cost. He remarked that the services offered could be what led St. Barnabas to earn this recognition. “Many services can take place right here—everything from recreation to healthcare. Every week there are a hundred activities going on,” Lauteri said. adno=6443147 Written by Eddie Trizzino for Trib Total Media for voting us #1 - Best Home Care We know what it takes to get you better!
