In addition, Adrian’s also took home a pair of Community Awards for Best Hoagies and Best Pizza Shop in Gibsonia/ Bakerstown. With all those accolades in hand, it’s a different kind of venture that Mazzotta and his wife and co-owner, Melissa, would like to introduce. The pizza shop, boasting more than fifty different types of gourmet pizza, has been in business for sixteen years, but in February 2015, the couple opened MazzottaWinery on the building’s second floor. Customers can buy wine by the glass or bottle if they’re eating in the restaurant downstairs, or they can buy bottles to take home and enjoy. “We have a tasting room where people can come in try the wines before they buy them,” Frank Mazzotta said. The winery boasts thirty four different varieties of small-batch, hand-crafted wines to choose from, including a couple of award-winning selections. Mazzotta entered two varieties of his wine in the 2017 Great American InternationalWine Competition. Both won medals in the competition, which featured more than 1,000 wines. His 2016 Mango won the Gold Medal in the Other Fruit Varieties class, while his 2016 Niagara won a Silver Medal in the Niagara class. TheWinery also captured medals in the 2017 Finger Lakes InternationalWine Competition with Pear taking a Double Gold and Niagara claiming a Bronze Medal. Mazzotta’s grapes are shipped from Pennsylvania, California, Chile and Italy. As for the process of making the wine, everything takes place on site, and Mazzotta is a one-man operation when it comes to the wine-making. “I have been making wines since I was a little kid with my father,” he said. “I’ve been doing that longer than anything else.” If beer is more your style, Adrian’s offers two hundred and seventy different kinds of bottled beer on site.
