Honda’s upscale division will retire the aged ILX
compact sedan after the 2022 model year and replace
it with a new model with an even older name (that was
last used in 1999). The upcoming front-wheel-drive
Integra won’t go on sale until the second quarter of
2022 but it should be worth the wait. The four-door
hatchback is based on the Honda Civic Si, but the
bodywork has been reworked with Acura’s traditional
pointy grille grafted onto the nose. In back, a decentsized
spoiler has been integrated with the hatch
opening. Under the hood resides a Civic-Si-based
turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine that puts
out 200 horsepower and 192 pound-feet of torque.
It’s connected to a six-speed manual transmission
that has a rev-matching feature; it blips the throttle
when downshifting for a smooth transition. Unlike
the Si, though, the Integra will offer an automatic

transmission. A limited-slip differential
will also be standard. Acura confirms
that pricing will start in the $30,000 range,
which is about $2,000 more than the Civic
Si. In all likelihood, a more potent Type S
version will arrive later in 2022.
