THE ARTS THE TRANSFORMATIVE POWER OF THEATRE Cabaret Theatre owner counting down days until curtain can go up on renovated venue BY MARJORIE WERTZ For Trib Total Media Many area residents still remember being transfixed and trans-formed by the shows they watched at the Manos Theatre on Main Street in Latrobe. John Carosella, a retired English teacher from Hempfield, knows all about the transformative power of theatre. He has written, acted and directed live theatre shows under the auspices of Father Tom Devereux of Saint Vincent College and Gene and Iva Saraceni of Seton Hill Uni-versity, among others. “Since those early days, I have continued to teach myself by directing as much as possible, seeing as many shows as possible, acting and writ-ing as much as possible,” said Carosella, who established The Cabaret Theatre, Inc. and purchased the former Manos Theatre building on Aug. 13, 2015. Renovations of the first floor seating area and stage are in progress at the Cabaret Theatre in Latrobe. For now, work is stalled while funds are raised for a new sprinkler system. Dozens of stage lights wait to be hung upon the completion of renovations. 22 | Destination Westmoreland 2017 PHOTOS: KEN REABE | FOR TRIB TOTAL MEDIA
